DIII Head Women’s Volleyball Coach, Andrew Brown has crossed the 100 win threshold in record time- just his 4th season. The Violets just won their second straight conference title and are ranked #6 in the nation as they march towards the national championship weekend Nov 18-20th in Pittsburgh, PA.

Coach Brown and I discussed what it takes to play at this level and tips he uses to help his athletes stay grounded and feeling confident to chase their dreams.

Today’s guest is head coach of the highly successful (26-2 in 2021 season) New York University’s Women’s Volleyball Team. Coach Brown discusses his atypical path to the coaching profession and the differences of playing DI, DII or DIII volleyball. Playing at a highly academic DIII has a lot of perks (yes, international travel!) as well as a great opportunity to delve into other experiences in college as the off-season is much longer and the in season less time consuming.

He also goes very deep on what are the attributes of a successful recruits and some good insider tips if you’re trying to get noticed by college coaches.

As we ramp up to high school volleyball season, join us for a great discussion with the co-owner and Founder of Sunshine VBC here in Los Angeles. Two of the clubs top teams won Gold in the Open Division at Junior Olympics last summer. She is also the Head Coach at Marymount HS, which is ranked #1 in the country in girls volleyball.

What should parents be focused on in their children’s younger years, both on and off the court and what makes for successful athletes as they get to the more competitive levels, in high school and beyond.

In this week’s episode of the #RaisingAthletes Podcast, we spoke with Kyle Weindel, the Associate Club Director and Coach for the Sunshine Volleyball Club. Sunshine is the #1 club in Southern California and is consistently ranked in the top 10 in the country. If you have a young athlete who is considering playing club and/or has dreams to play volleyball in college, you’ll want to hear this episode where we discuss what age to start playing, when to specialize and how to navigate club volleyball. For those who think they may want to play in college, listen in for what coaches are really looking for in a student/athlete.

Weindel is a former DI collegiate All-American from Ball State University who pursued a coaching career at the collegiate assistant and head coach level at the University of New Mexico, Montana State University and the University of Southern California. He is now focused on coaching and leading one of the top girls’ volleyball clubs in the country.
